Webnames.ca 10th Anniversary Celebration Helps Raise $16,000 in Support of Early Stage Cancer Detection
Vancouver, BC, October 5, 2010 — Webnames.ca Inc., Canada's original domain registrar and an ally on the web to Canadian businesses, celebrated its 10th year in business by giving back to the Canary Foundation, an organization dedicated to tackling cancer at its root.
Through its successful Anniversary party fundraiser, and the generosity of their sponsors and donors, Webnames.ca placed first in the fundraising category of the Vancouver Canary Derby on September 25, 2010, raising $16,701of the total $82,550 garnered by the fourteen participating teams. All the funds raised through the annual Canary Derby go to support the Canary Foundation and BC Cancer Foundation goal of identifying cancer early through a simple blood test.
This was Webnames.ca’s third year racing its soapbox car in the Vancouver Canary Derby. The team was lead by Cybele Negris, President of Webnames.ca and Co-Chair of the Vancouver Canary Derby, who has been a longtime advocate of research in support of early stage cancer detection.
Through Cybele’s hard work and motivation, the Webnames.ca team has been the top fundraiser for three years in a row and the Canary Derby has become a part of the company’s culture. “The Canary Derby has been an amazing team building experience for all of us at Webnames.ca,” said Cybele Negris, “and it exemplifies our core value of ‘Making a Positive Difference’ in our community.”
After a third place finish this year, Webnames.ca is looking forward to a fourth year of Canary Derby. The company challenges other companies within Vancouver’s technology community to beat them in fundraising and on the race course in 2011.
